BHC Tier II Travel Hockey

Bowie Hockey Club Tier II Travel Hockey Program

The Bowie Hockey Club is a USA Hockey registered Tier II program that fields competitive teams from the 8U to the 18U (Girls 19U) age group.

TEAM FORMATION

The Bowie Hockey Club skates competitive teams in the Capital Beltway Hockey League (CBHL). This league is part of the Potomac Valley Amateur Hockey Association (PVAHA) , our local affiliate organization under USA Hockey. Teams may also elect to play in the Eastern Junior Elite Prospects League (EJEPL). These teams play in a highly structured league environment and also play non-league games with other USA Hockey sanctioned teams. The Travel teams compete in invitational tournaments throughout the Eastern US and Canada, in compliance with USA Hockey policies.

“AA/A” Level Team Criteria

The criteria for AA team selection are as follows:

  • Team will seek to be highly competitive for CBHL (where applicable) division titles, CBHL and USA Hockey playoffs and tournaments.
  • The best available players in each age bracket will be selected for this level.
  • Playing time is primarily dependent upon performance, attendance and discipline, with equity having a lower priority.
  • Instruction will usually be limited in basic skills, with a greater emphasis on game preparation.
  • Players must make a high commitment to attendance at all team activities.
  • Attitude toward the game and fellow players is also a determining factor.

“B” level Team Criteria

The criteria for team selection are as follows:

  • Team will be competitive comparable to the ability of the team.
  • The less skilled or adaptable players in each age bracket will be selected for this level.
  • Playing time will be mostly on an even basis, with exceptions for attendance, disciplinary problems, or game situations at the discretion of the head coach.
  • Instruction will be in basic skills, rules situation play, and indoctrination to team play concepts.
  • Players should make a commitment to attendance at team activities.
  • Attitude toward the game and fellow players is also a determining factor.

PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITY

Participants must be registered by BHC and USA Hockey to be eligible. In addition, any outstanding financial obligations to BHC or to any other USA Hockey Association must be fully satisfied in order for that participant to take part in tryouts or to be selected. All players registered with the BHC are encouraged to participate in the tryouts. All fees must be paid in accordance with the registration policies as outlined in the section on registration. Any required releases from a player’s original club must be obtained and presented to the BHC prior to acceptance on any BHC team. All players wishing to be released during or after the tryout process must follow the procedures for player release as outlined in the section on registration. If a player is chosen and accepts a position on the team, that player will be subject to all the policies of the BHC, CBHL, and USA Hockey. If the player is not chosen for a Travel team and wishes to remain with the BHC, the player has the option to register for the Recreational program.

PARTICIPANT SELECTION

Participants are selected via a tryout process. All prospective players are strongly encouraged to attend ALL scheduled tryout sessions; if a player is unable to attend or complete the tryouts, she or he must notify the BHC Hockey Director and BHC President in writing. The player must explain the circumstances and express his or her intent to play for the club. The appropriate coaches and evaluators will be made aware of the situation. The player may request an evaluation by the Team Head Coach for her or his age classification when circumstances allow the player and Team Head Coach to do so. This process does not compel the BHC to “hold” a spot, and the decision to add a player to a team is the decision of the Team Head Coach. Any roster changes must be in accordance with USA Hockey and CBHL rules and regulations.
