Welcome to the Bowie Hockey Club Website.    

Bowie Hockey Club (established in 1971) has been providing quality hockey instruction for nearly 50 years. The club provides a wide range of programs, from instructional hockey for the very beginner to competitive travel teams.  
 

Our recreational teams compete in the CCHL, travel teams play in the the CBHL, and our top teams also play in the EJEPL, a league made up of teams from the east coast and also other areas of the country.  The club also runs a spring hockey program to keep skills sharp for tryouts.

Bowie Hockey Club Program Director – Job Description
The Hockey Director will lead the development and implementation of a unified plan for BHC which will provide the basis to develop the appropriate skills and attitudes among our youth hockey players and coaches in order to prepare them to be competitive at all levels of play.

Primary Duties:

  1. Communicate long term vision and objectives for Hockey Program (Travel & House League).
  2. Communicate annual plan (toward achieving goals and objectives above).
  3. Facilitate and participate in the coach selection process (Travel & House League).
    1. Recruiting new coaches.
    2. Provideinput and approval on assistant    coaches (subject to final Board approval).
  4. Facilitate and participate in team selection and process.
    1. Work with the VP of Travel to schedule a successful tryout.
    2. Run all on-ice tryout activities.
    3. Work with the VP of House to schedule a successful assessment, where necessary.
  5. Facilitate and participate in coach development for the Hockey Program.
    1. Working with coaches on-ice to help develop a proper practice routine that incorporates
      1. Following ADM
      2. Cultivates better decision makers
      3. Keeps players engaged
    2. Working with coaches off-ice to help develop a proper off-ice training routine.
    3. Working with coaches in development of team management, to include guidelines for discipline and expectations.
    4. Implement ongoing education and training programs for coaches and conduct coaching meeting once a month for all head coaches to include.
      1. Teaching Systems
      2. Game Management
      3. Game Rules
  6. Facilitate and participate in player development for the Hockey Program.
    1. Work in tandem with Weekly Skills/Skating Clinics coaches. (Power Skating, Goalie, …)
    2. Planning and Implementing Spring Hockey Skills/Skating Clinics
    3. Planning and Implementing the Rising Squirt Clinics
    4. Planning and Implementing the Checking Clinics
  7. Ensure that BHC is promoting age-appropriate skill development at all levels within the Hockey program.
  8. Convey ice needs to the scheduler to assist in assignment of all ice times across all teams and levels within Hockey Program.
  9. Be primary conduit between the Hockey Program and the BHC Board of Directors (and attend monthly board meetings).
  10. Planning and Implementing Learn to Play
  11. Oversee games when necessary, for evaluation of players and coaches
  12. Involved in Disciplinary Review Board and process.
  13. Conduct postseason coaching evaluations.

The ideal candidate will possess the following credentials:

  1. 5 years coaching experience with at least 2 years at high school level or above;
  2. Prior record of organizational responsibility (i.e. youth sports organization or business experience);
  3. Established, well-respected presence and contacts within the Metro-Area area hockey community.

At a minimum, the candidate must exhibit the following qualities:

  • Experienced hockey individual;
  • Travel youth hockey head coaching experience
  • USAH CEP level 3 or higher
  • USAH safeSport Certified
  • USA Hockey Background Screened
  • Recommended to have all age appropriate modules for USA Hockey;
  • Demonstrated commitment to sport;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Efficient planner with follow-through;
  • Patience to achieve long term goals.

Compensation:

The Hockey Directory will have a paid annual salary and travel expenses. The contract will go into effect on May 1 of the current year and end on April 30 of the following year. All interested applicants please send resume to .

Bowie Hockey Club's Recreational Programs (8U Mite House, 10U, 12U, 14U and 16U/18U) are now open for registration for the 2018-19 season. New members may register on June 1st. All previous Learn to Play members may register now.
